20th Century Studios has a new Alien movie up its sleeves for Hulu according to President Steve Asbell in a recent interview.
Ridley is a relationship that I’ve had personally for 20 years, and we’ve made six films together. And we just renewed his overall deal. …We’re in very current business with all them (listed previous directors).
However, for the upcoming new project on Alien, Ridley Scott will produce the film through Scott Free.
Director Fede Álvarez will be at the helm to write and direct the movie.
There’s a lot of room for storytelling under the Alien franchise.
The studio intends to have the upcoming movie as a stand-alone story and will not affect or be affected by existing films.
Apparently Alvarez is huge fan of the franchise and shared his idea for an Alien story to Scott some time in the past.
The idea stuck on Scott and then late 2021 he called Alvarez to take him up to his story.
Of course Alvarez jumped on the idea.

Fede Alvarez’s previous works as writer and director include Evil Dead in 2013, Don’t Breathe in 2016, and The Girl in the Spider’s Web in 2018.
He also wrote and produced the sequel to Don’t Breathe just last year.
It’s easy to say that Alvarez has the supernatural, horror, thriller and action genre covered.
With an Alien standalone movie, he can add science fiction into the mix.
There is also the possibility of getting a series of movies from this upcoming film about Alien.
Steve Asbell has mentioned:
…thanks to this increase in streaming output, with the exception of a few titles, all of our movies will launch on Hulu domestically, Star+ internationally, which allows us to make the genres that we love, genres that Disney doesn’t make in the other divisions, and that we haven’t been able to play with as much in recent years. Comedy, thriller, young adult, horror. We get more of these at-bats, and we can make more bets on new talent.

This Alien movie that Alvarez will direct and Scott will produce may have the potential to be a series for Hulu.
Ridley Scott’s still deep in production with Napoleon for Apple TV but is already in a renewed deal and talks with 20th Century Studio.
His involvement in the development of the Alien movies is highly important to say the least.
From his work on the 1979 Alien and to two more recent films Prometheus in 2012 and Alien: Covenant, the three films had a budget total of $232.7M and made $825.7M in the World Wide Box Office record.
The new movie’s premise or story is not yet announced as it’s still in the early stages of development.
But having Ridley Scott to produce and with Fede Alvarez to direct and write, they’re currently strengthening the backbone of production.
We’ll look forward to more Xenomorphs and “facehuggers” on Hulu in the coming years.
